      Making it happen

      June 2016

“In football and in business, there are three types of people. Those who make it happen, those who watch it happen, and those who wonder what happened,” my dad used to say when I was still at high school in Germany. It took almost a decade for me to find out that it wasn’t actually dad speaking, but US baseball coach, Tommy Lasorda, and that he wasn’t referring to football at all.

If there is one thing to take away from the May edition of Prime Mover magazine, it’s that change is inevitable if you want to achieve lasting success.

      Measuring the world

      April 2016

It’s safe to say the April 2016 edition of Prime Mover magazine is one the most ambitious issues we’ve ever created. For one, it will serve as the official Showguide for the 2016 International Truck, Trailer & Equipment Show, boasting a complete map and exhibitor listing, as well as an interesting ‘behind the scenes’ view at the event’s two-year development process.

      Thank you, Peter Armstrong

      February 2016

Peter has been a father-like mentor to me and taught me most of what I know about Australia’s vast and varied transport industry. Over time, I was lucky enough to rise through the ranks and eventually be appointed Managing Editor of Prime Creative Media’s commercial road transport division, but I doubt I would have come that far without Peter’s support and encouragement.

      How to manage knowledge

      December 2015

I’ve recently been told that ‘knowledge management’ is the new buzzword in the business world, and looking back at our editorial coverage over the course of 2015, I am not at all surprised. Most of the knowledge conversation that has taken place within and around the magazine has actually focused on data as a raw material only, without a clear understanding of how to refine it into strategic intelligence. While we seem to have mastered the art of collecting information, have we learned to manage it?

      Culture first

      November 2015

In working on the latest issue of Prime Mover, it was fascinating to learn that Merriam Webster’s dictionary considered ‘culture’ the most popular word of 2014. We were well aware that it had become somewhat of a boardroom buzzword as of late, and for good reason, but to see it discussed so broadly was eye opening.

      Knowledge is power

      October 2015

In our last edition, I spoke about how trucking has to embrace more of a “logistics mindset” to meet the transformational challenge facing us all and successfully create a more agile and streamlined industry. After last month’s dramatic leadership spill, that need to constantly adapt and change is now more evident than ever before, so I am glad to see that we have been leading the way early on.

Effective immediately, we have renamed Brendan Richards’ much talked-about monthly column from Risky Business into The Logistics Mindset – and I think it’s been a timely move.

      Time for change

      August 2015

Flicking through the latest edition of Prime Mover Magazine, you will soon notice that the re-occurring topic is change. In a time where Australia has to readjust itself and find a new pathway to growth, the ability to inspire and execute change is becoming a crucial survival skill. Darwin himself said that it’s not the strongest that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the most responsive to change – and with mining investment on a downward slope, changeability is probably more pressing an issue than ever before.

      The wheel keeps on turning

      July 2015

Only a week after the Brisbane Truck Show closed its gates again last month, we saw the launch of the next International Truck, Trailer & Equipment Show (ITTES) in Melbourne – with new Show Director Simon Coburn promising a truck industry event “unlike anything ever seen” in Australia.
