The logical choice

The logical choice

When transport companies turn to Logical Staffing Solutions, they receive access to its pool of passionate, experienced drivers, and the knowledge that they will find the right fit.

For Kevin Caccianiga, a former farmer that resides in Northern Victoria, driving has been a passion for many years. “When I was 20, I had my first taste of heavy vehicle driving and I loved it,” he says. “I could drive a truck all day, and still be happy to go for a pleasure drive the next day – it doesn’t matter if I’m in the city or the countryside, I can appreciate driving anywhere.”

Kevin decided to look into supplementing his farming income with driving part time and soon came across Logical Staffing Solutions. “I was interested in the ability to work flexible hours,” he says. “I heard about Logical and went to see them. They did a thorough background check and, having seen that my record was squeaky clean, we were on.”

Kevin has driven for Logical Staffing Solutions for the past three years. Since December 2017, he has performed line-haul work for Duotank Transport, a specialist in bulk beer supply chain systems. The assignment involves driving a refrigerated rigid truck to Tweed Heads from Sydney, to do what might be considered – by a large percentage of the population – humanitarian work.

“The truck is secured with 1,000-litre bulk beer tanks that contain brewery-fresh unpasteurised beer,” he says.

Kevin works in tandem with another driver, who takes care of the direct delivery to pubs. Once deliveries have been completed, Kevin embarks on the 800km return journey along Australia’s east coast, which he estimates takes between nine and 10 hours – providing road works are scarce.

Kevin has held a heavy vehicle licence for over 40 years, and qualified for his articulated licence in 2003. “I’ve got a multi-combination licence, and I’m comfortable driving rigids, B-doubles and road trains,” he says.

During the past five years, since he started driving part time for extra income, Kevin estimates he has driven between 400,000km and 500,000km, primarily hauling livestock, and all passed without incident.

“I’ve done pretty well,” says Kevin. “The kilometres flick by pretty quickly, and I credit my safety record to good fortune – and staying vigilant on the road.”

He says this and reliability are what companies value most when looking for drivers. “It boils down to doing a job safely and efficiently,” he says. “A good nature doesn’t go astray – you have to be able to get along with the people around you, but safety is the most important factor. We look forward to getting back to our family at the end of the day, while doing the best job that we possibly can.”
