The Australasian Fleet Management Association (AfMA) has awarded John Barlow from NSW Department of Industry the ‘2018-19 Fleet Manager of the Year’ award.
International mobility solutions provider, SG Fleet, has congratulated Barlow on his award win.
“It has been a privilege for us at SG Fleet to work with John and his team over a number of years,” SG Fleet said in a statement.
“This is also the third time in recent years that this award has been given to fleet managers that work with us, making it a testament to both our customers and our dedicated teams. A great achievement all round.”
The NSW Department of Industry fleet comprises over 12,000 light commercial and heavy commercial vehicles, according to Barlow.
Barlow said that even in a regional based setting, there is a place for electric and hybrid vehicles in their fleet.
He added that the introduction of telematics has provided a great dataset for the utilisation of the fleet, enabling improved management of the department’s vehicles.
“Since introducing a vehicle telematics fleet in 2018 we’ve seen a dramatic drop not only in the rate of incidents and claims, but also in the proportion of driver at risk claims,” said NSW Department of Industry Executive Director, Katherine Tollner. “In terms of insurance claims, we’ve seen those drop by over a hundred in just a 12-month period since we started rolling out the solution and 90 per cent drop in driver at risk claims.”
Tollner said the department’s fleet optimisation strategy has been a huge success and has delivered major savings of over a million dollars since introducing vehicle telematics.
