Dr Charles Karl, National Technical Leader for Congestion, Freight and Productivity at ARRB Group, recently had a chance to get a taste of life in the fast lane as a passenger in Laser Racing’s Porsche 911 GT3 Cup.
Dr Karl had won the once-in-a-lifetime experience by attending the Global Truck & Trailer Leaders Summit’s (GTTLS) Networking Dinner in Melbourne at the start of April after sharing his thoughts on the future of the regulatory scene in Australia with the audience.
Sponsored by GTTLS Foundation Sponsor, BP Australia, Dr Karl – an expert for the use of technology for safety, productivity and regulatory needs – had the opportunity to take a seat next to racing legend and current runner-up in the Porsche Carrera Cup, Steve Richards, for a high-speed tour around the fast and famous Sandown circuit in Melbourne.
Laser Racing’s Porsche 911 GT3 Cup can boast a 3.8-litre flat-six engine that produces some 338 kW (460 hp) – enough to get Dr Karl excited. “It’s been a great experience to see how hard race drivers actually push the car,” he said. “Feeling the acceleration and harsh braking first-hand was an amazing experience.”
