ARRB names new State Technical Leader QLD

The Australian Road Research Board (ARRB) has appointed Matthew Bereni as State Technical Leader – Queensland.

Bereni is a Chartered Civil Engineer with 15 years of engineering and leadership experience in both the private and public sectors through civil engineering, engineering, economics, regulatory and policy reform roles.

ARRB Chief Executive, Michael Caltabiano, has said that Bereni was an outstanding candidate to lead ARRB’s Queensland branch through the next phase of its transformation program.

"[Bereni’s] extensive knowledge of our stakeholders and industry will be invaluable as we are implementing our vision set out in our 2017-2020 strategic plan. [Bereni] and his team will actively contribute to drive innovation and deliver an adaptable, connected future,” he said.

Before joining ARRB, Bereni was Manager of National Harmonisation with the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) where he led the National Harmonisation Program Team to deliver on Transport and Infrastructure Council, and NHVR priorities.

Bereni has worked on major projects for the European Commission and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), where he gained specialised knowledge of heavy vehicle infrastructural (road and bridge) impacts, according to ARRB.

In 2009, Bereni joined the National Transport Commission in Melbourne where he was Manager of pricing and economics.

Bereni will reportedly lead the Queensland branch of ARRB with a focus on delivering high quality applied research to road managers, the industry and the community.

Bereni has said he felt privileged to be appointed as State Technical Leader of ARRB, “an organisation which is successfully moving boldly into the future while building on decades of recognised experience in our industry.”

“I am looking forward to further strengthening our position as the most advanced source of independent expert transport knowledge, advising key decision makers on our most important and critical challenges,” he said.
