ARTSA returns with three-day training

The Australian Road Transport Suppliers Association (ARTSA) is holding a three-day training session from 12 to 14 November focusing on Certification, Engineering and Modifications.

Led by Chairman Dr Peter Hart and with other presenters from the Commercial Vehicle Industry Association of Australia (CVIAA), the event has been enhanced from last year to include an updated certification module and an additional modifications day.

Hart is an electrical engineer with close to 20 years’ experience as a forensic examiner and expert witness. He is also an Agent in the Road Vehicle Certification System and a VicRoads Engineering Signatory.

The event is conducted in three individual parts over the three days, each of which can be attended separately. It is designed to provide an ideal environment to gain an understanding of the details behind each of these topics.

During the first day, delegates will be informed about certification procedures, with topics explored including permit vehicles, the Intelligent Access Program (IAP), legal issues and the Road Vehicle’s Standards Act.

The second day will be devoted to heavy vehicle engineering including brakes, engines, axles, suspension, steering, electrical systems, tyres and performance, Performance Based Standards (PBS) and chassis design.

On the third and final day there will be a Vehicle Standards Bulletin (VSB) overview as well as body attachments, brake modifications, mechanical couplings, towbars, vehicle mounted lifting systems, engine and transmission substitution, common failure modes and vehicle safety.

Full details of each of the three days are here

According to ARTSA the course is unique in that training of this type and depth is not available elsewhere.

It will be informative for anyone with a professional interest in heavy truck and trailer safety and mechanical performance.

This includes workshop managers, fleet operations managers, vehicle engineers, components suppliers and manufacturers, vehicle modifiers, insurance investigators and vehicle inspectors.

Course costs for ARTSA, CVIAA, CVIAV and VACC members are $550 per day inclusive of GST.

The cost for non-members is $770 per day inclusive of GST.

Participants can elect to attend on any or all three days.
