Autonomous truck start-up raises $19 million

Californian company, Embark, has reportedly raised US$15 million (A$19.3 million) in Series A funding and has partnered with heavy equipment manufacturer, Peterbilt, to produce a new test fleet for autonomous trucking.

Embark unveiled a prototype vehicle in February that pioneers a form of artificial intelligence to assist owner operators with long hauls.

Specifically, these self-driving trucks are built for safety and utilise innovative hardware from cameras and depth sensors to advanced machine learning software to optimise human driver efficiency.

According to a report from US technology website TechCrunch, the funding should assist Embark with talent acquisition for their engineering team and should also add trucks to the test fleet for US expansion.
