Definitive PBS report to debut at ARTSA Summit

The Australian Road Transport Suppliers Association (ARTSA) Global Heavy Vehicle Leaders Summit on 8 May in Melbourne will launch the definitive Performance-Based Standards (PBS) report for Australia’s PBS vehicle fleet.

The report is a collaborative effort between ARTSA Data and the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR).

According to ARTSA Chairman, Dr Peter Hart, “PBS is now generating work for more than 20 truck manufacturers and over 60 trailer manufacturers. It is a phenomenal success with 2,500 PBS units being added to the fleet in 2017”.

In terms of market share, PBS accounts for 86 per cent of the four-axle dog market and 35 per cent of the three-axle heavy rigid market. They are the two stand out categories with PBS overall accounting for 10 per cent of total new builds for heavy prime movers and rigids and 14 per cent for heavy trailers.

The Global Heavy Vehicle Leaders Summit will provide delegates with a report on market share as well as other key statistics that are driving the PBS take-up.

“It is a phenomenal success story,” said Hart. “It is driving a renewal of the fleet with average age of the PBS fleet close to 3.5 years compared with 12 to 14 years for the total fleet. This new gear brings greater productivity, improved safety and environmental outcomes,” he said.

Tickets are on sale now and as the official launch event for MEGATRANS2018, attendees are provided complimentary access across the three days of the trade expo as part of their registration.
