Dutch company to enter electric truck race

Eindhoven-based VDL Group, parent company of Dutch suspension specialist, VDL Weweler, is reportedly working on an electric truck model that it will bring to market under its own brand name.

Less than a week after US start-up Tesla announced it was exploring electric mobility concepts for the commercial vehicle space, Eindhovens Dagblad reported VDL was working on an electric vehicle, too – claiming the conglomerate has “big ambitions in the field of electric vehicles and battery technology”.

While parts of the truck will reportedly come from Dutch OEM, DAF, VDL is expected to market the vehicle under its own brand.

According to Eindhovens Dagblad, the project will not only focus on trucks, but also buses and vans, and utilise locally developed and manufactured battery technology. VDL is already active in the field of bus manufacturing today.
