Echuca-Moama bridge project in progress

A second Murray River crossing to connect Echuca in Victoria and Moama in NSW has started development according to the Livestock, Bulk and Rural Carriers Association (LBRCA). The project is jointly funded by the Australian, Victorian and NSW governments for $280 million.

Melinda Pavey, NSW Roads Minister, said the current bridge, built in 1878, has served the district well however a new crossing to provide efficiencies for the community as well as the heavy vehicle freight industry is well overdue. Pavey was at the site of the bridge on July 20 with Federal Member for Murray, Damian Drum, Member for Murray, Adrian Piccoli and Member for Murray Plains, Peter Walsh, who announced the plans.

“This project will connect NSW to Victoria to allow for better movement of freight between our two states,” Pavey said.

“This new bridge will ensure that freight from the region including sheep, dairy, cotton and rice can get to the markets efficiently and safely.”
