Industry must prepare for rapid automation notes Toll Group top exec

Toll Group Managing Director, Michael Byrne, believes the coming decade will yield an unprecedented period of disruption for the transport and logistics sectors.

Speaking at the Excellence in Leaders Series for Australian Chamber of Commerce in Singapore, Byrne told guests that industry was currently experiencing an exciting albeit intense time of adjustment.

“The next five to 15 years will be a time of significant disruption and rapid automation,” he said.

“The ability to adapt will be a critical organisational and personal skill.”

Byrne was a guest speaker covering ‘Digital, innovation and the future of logistics.’

A free ranging discussion compared by Juliette Saly of Bloomberg touched on the significance of human talent, technologies and customer delivery, some of the key performance channels to have contributed to the historical transformation of Toll Group.

During his talk with Juliette Saly of Bloomberg, Byrne outlined how Toll was embracing and preparing for the dramatically changing landscape of the logistics industry.

This included his company’s commitment to driving innovation to create more value for its customers by sizeable investments in technology, fleet and equipment in the coming years.

“At Toll, we’re excited to work jointly with our customers and partners to shape the journey ahead,” said Byrne.

“The future belongs to those who think ahead. We have started our journey. We understand that innovation will be more important than ever, as our industry responds to huge forces in globalisation, digitalisation and new demographics.”
