Isuzu previews EV concept vehicles at MEGATRANS2018

Isuzu Australia (IAL) has unveiled a pair of concept electric vehicles. Fitting with existing Isuzu vehicle (CV) cab-chassis, the trucks are being evaluated for key urban applications and will be especially suited to parcel and food deliveries.

The IAL EV comes on the heels of recent advancements in lithium-ion batteries. Smart software, according to Isuzu, will maximise battery usage and regeneration. According to Isuzu two different battery types will range in storage from 100kW h to 135kW h. Recent gains in higher power density for batteries are expected to improve the life span with IAL looking for each model, as an initial benchmark, to hit a minimum operating range of 200 kilometres.

The EVs, reported by Isuzu, will be tested with other bodies in the 6,500kg – 14,000kg gross vehicle mass (GVM) class.

A direct-drive permanent magnet motor is powering the EV concept models.

The battery pack is secured within the chassis rails for impact protection and optimised vehicle balance.

The battery can power a fridge, for cold storage applications, occupying as little as 10 per cent of the power.
