Iveco unveils new Powerstar 7800 at ITTES

At the 2012 ITTES, Iveco has unveiled the new Powerstar 7800 Roadtrain model. According to Iveco, the new vehicle can combine North American power, European comfort and “unparalleled heavy-haulage capabilities” whilst boasting the lightest cab chassis available in the heavy vehicle transport market.

“Our product engineers have worked incredibly hard to develop a unique product that blends an American driveline and European comfort into an Australian made truck,” says John Koot, Director of Sales and Marketing at Iveco Trucks Australia.

Australian designed, engineered and manufactured, the Powerstar 7800 Roadtrain has been specifically developed for Australian roads to withstand the country’s harsh operating conditions.

Managing Director of Robertson Transport, Greg Robertson, is the first person to take delivery of the new model. “We had a great success with previous Powerstar models. The opportunity to be a test pilot for Australia’s next transport icon is extremely exciting,” he said at the official ITTES launch.

Powered by a 15-litre Cummins ISX Signature 600hp engine and coupled with an Eaton RTLO 22918B Roadranger transmission, the Powerstar 7800 boasts a GCM  of 140 tonnes. The ISX engine uses cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) to meet emissions compliance.

Meritor rear axles sit on the increased axle spread of the 56-inch cantilever suspension, with the front 6.5-tonne Meritor axle supported on parabolic springs.

Steering geometry gives a wheel cut angle of 50 degrees and super-single steer tyres are mounted on aluminium rims or spiders. Four round 450-litre capacity aluminium tanks are standard equipment.
