Kings Transport Group announces new CEO

Australian metro freight specialist, Kings Transport Group, has named a new Chief Executive Officer.

Barry Thompson was appointed to the role this week after previously holding the position of Executive General Manager of Contract Logistics and more recently the Chief Operations Officer.

Prior to his time at Kings, Thompson worked in the Asia Pacific region in senior leadership roles including Country Head Malaysia, Indonesia and Regional Director ASEAN for Australian and multinational organisations.

The appointment follows the resignation of Tony Mellick as group CEO.

Kings Transport confirmed he will continue to support the Executive Leadership Team through the financial year to help ensure a smooth leadership transition.

With a fleet of 2,000 vehicles all working in urban applications or short haul intrastate deliveries, Kings Transport has been an early adopter of electric vehicle technology partnering with SEA Electric.

"Kings Transport Group is extremely appreciative of Tony's hard work and dedication over the last five years and wishes him well in his future endeavours," the company said in a statement.

"The company welcomes Barry Thompson into his new and challenging role, wishing him every success as CEO of the Kings Transport Group."
