Last call for 2019 trucking industry election: ATA

Trucking operators wanting to have their say on critical issues affecting the industry have until Friday to get involved in the 2019 Australian Trucking Association (ATA) election.

The ATA represents the 50,000 businesses and 211,500 people in the Australian trucking industry and is calling for nominations for the owner-driver and small fleet operator representative positions on its General Council.

“This is an opportunity for owner-drivers with one truck and small fleet operators with 2-5 trucks to have their say on the issues we are facing as an industry,” said ATA Chair Geoff Crouch.

“The General Council guides the ATA’s industry policies and sets its strategic direction.

“The owner-driver and small fleet representatives have a direct input on Council matters and are eligible to join ATA policy committees,” he said.

To nominate for the owner-driver position, you must own, be purchasing or leasing one truck over 4.5 tonnes and drive it, be registered as a voter in ATA elections, and be a member of an ATA member association.

To nominate for the small fleet operator position, you must own, purchase or lease 2-5 trucks over 4.5 tonnes, be registered as a voter in ATA elections and be a member of an ATA member association.

To register to vote, you must own, be purchasing or leasing 1-5 trucks over 4.5 tonnes. You will also need to provide a valid ABN and an email address that is unique to you. You do not need to be in an ATA member association to vote.

If more than one nomination is received in a category, an election will take place in February through an online, secure voting system.

The ATA has appointed distinguished former public servant Phil Potterton as the Independent Returning Officer to conduct the election.

“Now is the time to register to vote or run for election,” said Crouch.

“This is a great opportunity to contribute to the ATA’s direction and the Australian trucking industry,” he said.
