Latest fuel tax increase revealed

The fuel tax credit rate for fuel purchased for on-road use in eligible heavy vehicles increased from 14.2 to 14.3 cents per litre from 1 July 2017.

According to the Australian Trucking Association (ATA), Diesel trucks must meet environmental criteria to be eligible for the credits, which are available on the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development website.

The increase is due to a corresponding reduction in the road user charge on fuel, as a result of a government agreement to freeze revenue from heavy vehicle charges for two years.

The ATO recommends that all operators use its online Fuel tax credit calculator to get correct fuel tax credit rates for a BAS. The calculator is also available on the ATO app.
