LBRCA debriefs on EWD information session

The Livestock, Bulk, and Rural Carriers Association (LBRCA) in partnership with the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) and Teletrac Navman joined over 30 heavy vehicle operators last Friday to discuss challenges, opportunities, and realities of Electronic Work Diaries (EWD).

The Yoogali Club in Griffith played host to the event that provided the background to the voluntary EWD introduction in addition to projected on-road compliance and enforcement protocols.

“Having NHVR Fatigue Specialist Andreas Blahous, RMS Compliance and Operations Inspector for the Riverina, Allan McArthur, and operators in one room to discuss how EWD’s may affect operations and practices moving forward was quite interesting and was well worthwhile,” said LBRCA Policy Representative, Paul Pulver.

“We all know that bringing all sides together – and therefore working together – will reap far greater outcomes in the long-run.

“The feeling from the meeting is that there are still some concerns about where this device will be in two-three years’ time as well as concerns about the costs and how the GPS functionality works, that are still to be finalised,” he said.

The NHVR has reportedly confirmed that the EWD Standard will be released on 28 May with all service providers required to have their service solution assessed against the standard from this date.

“Teletrac Navman will be applying for their product Sentinel to be approved from this date and will be looking to migrate all existing clients to an ‘EWD version’ at no additional cost,” said Teletrac Navman Transport Solutions Specialist, Shannon Kyle.
