Linfox receives delivery of first Scania NTG fleet

In a landmark new deal, Linfox has taken delivery of its first New Truck Generation from Scania Australia.

The leading logistics company has earmarked the new Euro 6 P 450 6x4 prime movers, the first of 42, for metropolitan operations around Australia.

The trucks have been uniformly painted in Linfox red and yellow.

Fitted with side curtain roll over airbags, the Scania P 450 Sleeper Cab is the lowest-entry cab currently available in Australia, catered for drivers who make multi-drop deliveries over a shift.

In an issued statement from the commercial vehicle manufacturer, Scania Australia said it had improved visibility and comfort for drivers with the New Truck Generation, moving the front axle 50 mm further forward and moving the driver closer to the screen and the door to aid vehicle positioning.

This has reportedly made reversing onto loading docks on retail premises and tight spaces of supermarkets easier.

A larger windscreen and redesigns to A-pillars, door mirrors and new brackets are expected to improve visibility at intersections, a critical factor for urban operators.

The full Scania safety pack has been fitted including Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Departure Warning. LED daytime running lamps, auto wipers and headlamps are included with larger brakes to shorten stopping distance.

The Sleeper Cab comes with a full-size mattress.

The 450 hp 6-cylinder engine produces 2350 Nm of torque and is fed by a 710-litre fuel tank, while there are 75-litres of AdBlue on board.

“Scania is very pleased to have a fleet customer as important as Linfox take delivery of our New Truck Generation P-series,” said Mikael Jansson, Scania Australia Managing Director.

“We have only recently begun delivery of the NTG vehicles in Australia and this is the biggest fleet order we have delivered of the NTG. We see this order as a vote of confidence in the Scania NTG vehicle, and our joint commitment to safety and sustainability,” said Jansson.

“The Scania NTG is the safest truck in Australia thanks to its comprehensive safety features including the only side curtain rollover protection airbags available in the truck market,” he said.

“Linfox was also very keen to take advantage of our Euro 6 engine, which offers significantly reduced emissions.”

Jansson said expectations for the new trucks were very high at Linfox and he was confident that they would be met.

“This purchase forms part of our ongoing work to replace older vehicles within our fleet to take advantage of new technology that improves safety and efficiency, while also reducing emissions,” said Ray Gamble, Linfox President of Fleet & Procurement.

“These investments ensure we are positioned to deliver more efficient and safer logistics for our customers and our community. We look forward to bringing the benefits of these investments to our customers and community in 2019.”
