Mack Anthem wins design award

The Mack Anthem, an all-new commercial heavy vehicle anticipated for launch in Australia by 2020, has been recognised by the Industrial Designers Society of America with the Silver International Design Excellence Award (IDEA).

Featuring a carved from granite appearance and several aerodynamic enhancements to better its fuel efficiency, Mack Anthem features a new hood and grille, chassis fairings, front bumper and air dam.

These have been created to help the truck reach a reported 3 per cent improvement in fuel economy.

Lukas Yates, Mack Chief Designer Exterior said receiving an IDEA award was one of the top honours in the field.

“I’m extremely proud of the team effort that helped make the Mack Anthem such a striking statement to the trucking world,” he said.

The IDEA awards began in 1980 and have been a celebration of the peak of design achievement across 20 industrial competition categories involving designers from all over the world.

With testing in Australia still incomplete, the Mack Anthem has been already validating in the North American market in September, 2017 as a reengineered and reimagined version of what today’s highway truck should look like.

A Mack Anthem was on show at the opening of Volvo Group Australia’s new $30 million Wacol facility last month.
