New final mile CitE launches at IAA

Commercial vehicle manufacturer, MAN Truck & Bus AG, has launched its electric delivery vehicle the CitE at the IAA Truck Show 2018 in Hanover, Germany.

Unveiled as part of its media conference this week, Joachim Drees, MAN Truck and Bus AG Chairman of the Executive Board presented the 15-tonne all electric urban delivery solution, describing it as “our answer to transporting goods in the cities.”

According to Drees, the urban environment of the future will be determined by alternative drives.

“In the medium term the future of urban transportation will be electric,” he said.

The CitE would offer an operational range of 100 kilometres on a full charge to make it a truly sustainable delivery option. Its ergonomic cab offered wider doors and the lowest entry step height in its class to accommodate drivers who move in and out of it up to 30 times a day.

Drees said MAN Truck & Bus AG had put in place a clear e-mobility road map for goods and passenger transport ahead of the challenges it anticipates with population growth in cities, many of which will double in size by 2050.

He said it was a responsibility for commercial vehicle manufacturers to provide the right solutions in order to help maintain quality of life in densely populated urban areas.

During the half hour presentation Drees emphasised the importance of future proofing MAN’s customers, as logistics, traffic and emissions all were certain to increase.

“Our industry is on the brink of change,” he said.

“Let me make one thing very clear. As a commercial vehicle manufacturer we are not part of the problem, we are part of the solution.”
