Mercedes-Benz launches all-wheel drive range

Mercedes-Benz has completed the third stage of its new generation truck roll out with an all-wheel drive range. The new models, manufactured to target a variety of customers will be available in 4x4, 6x6 and 8x8.

Rated to meet Euro 6 emissions, the all-wheel drive models have been designed to service construction industries, mining, fertiliser spreading and remote maintenance.

The roll out of the new vehicles follows the company’s introduction of road-purposed rigids in 2017.

Michael May, Mercedes-Benz Truck and Bus Australia, Director, said the all-wheel drive models were expected to show similar performance, economy and driver comfort as the recently released prime mover and rigid models.

“The versatility, robustness and capability of these trucks is second to none and we think our customers will appreciate the ground-up design that brings a range of benefits,” he said.

Ranging from 16-tonne capacity with 300hp on the 4x4 rigid model to 41-tonne with 460hp on the 8x8, the new models feature all new 8-litre and 11-litre six-cylinder engines. These are offered as standard. A 13-litre option will be available for specific applications.

Fully automated transmissions are standard across the range. A cyclone prefilter cleaner has been added to deliver handling in extreme environments.

An Electronic Braking System is also standard across the all-wheel drive range.
