NHVR and NTC to dissect transport reform at State Conference

The Victorian Transport Association (VTA) has confirmed the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator and National Transport Commission will have representatives in attendance at next month’s eagerly anticipated annual State Conference.

NHVR CEO Sal Petroccitto and NTC Chief Planning Officer Paul Davies will join a list of heavy hitters in the industry to address delegates on issues of reforms to heavy vehicle national law and other changes of note in a Federal Election year.

Having representatives from the industry’s two major regulatory bodies present at the State Conference, set for Silverwater Resort, Phillip Island, will add extra weight to an event that will take place under the theme, Keep Up with Transport Reform.

VTA CEO Peter Anderson said the industry was on the cusp of significant change with legislative, regulatory and other authorities undertaking reviews and implementing reforms in 2019 that will impact every operator.

“The NTC and NHVR are leading many of these reviews so we’re thrilled that they are sending their most senior people to update delegates on the changes that are on the horizon so that they can plan accordingly within their respective businesses,” he said.

The NHVR’s Sal Petroccitto is expected to update delegates on the work of Australia’s independent regulator for all heavy vehicles from an enforcement perspective in a session entitled The Law & Punishment – Reducing the Risk.

Victoria Police Superintendent John Fitzpatrick, who leads Road Policing Operations and Investigations Division, including the Heavy Vehicle Investigation Unit, will also address this session.

The NTC’s Paul Davies, it was confirmed today, will discuss the heavy vehicle national law review in a session entitled The Major Reforms – HVNL, Licensing & Road User Charges.

Other sessions include Infrastructure – Effect of the Projects, Industrial Relations – Striking a Fair Balance, Vehicle Standards & Equipment – What’s the New Norm, and Safety & Technology – Planning for Change, with the VTA assembling a program of 35 industry experts to address these topical subjects.
