NHVR optimises online journey planning

The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) has added a number of new route planning features to its online permit application Portal to make it easier for access customers to plan and build their routes.

AccessCONNECT Program Director, David Carlisle, said the Portal, which has recently processed its 20,000th permit application, has processed more than 95 per cent of permit applications from over 7,000 registered heavy vehicle operators, since its launch in August last year.

“We’ve just released a number of new route planning features including the integration of drag and drop, drawing tools and Google Street View to make it easier to plan and map a heavy vehicle permit route,” Carlisle said.

“The improvements will also make it easier to apply for permit schemes and remove the need for Journey Planner IDs in the application into the future.

“These extra functions will allow the NHVR to continue to improve permit processing times and provide greater certainty for heavy vehicle operators.”

Carlisle said all registered users have been contacted with information about the changes.

“The time savings extend beyond just the NHVR Portal,” he said.

“There are more pre-approved routes across Australia and local councils have better systems through our close liaison with local government associations and groups, and our direct engagement with mayors and council staff.

“Soon, we will be supporting local governments with a new Portal module to streamline the road manager decision-making processes and further cut timeframes.”
