NSW Government announces free rego

Road Freight NSW (RFNSW) has called for the NSW Government's new free registration for toll road users to be extended to heavy vehicle users 'for the sake of equitable coverage'.

NSW Premier, Gladys Berejiklian, announced that car drivers will be eligible for free vehicle registration if they spend more than $25 a week, on average, over a 12 month period on tolls.

“The majority of eligible motorists will save $358 a year on registration costs, with potential savings of up to $715 a year,” Berejiklian said.

“The Government’s strong budget position allows us to give back to toll users.

The rego rebate will be available for all standard privately registered cars, utes, four-wheel-drives and motorcycles from July 1, 2018.

RFNSW applauds this initiative from the Berejiklian government and proposes this scheme be extended to NSW registered heavy vehicles for the sake of equitable coverage.

Free rego for heavy vehicle users also sends a clear message that this government understands the cost pressures felt by freight companies and that they pay their fair share for the use of the roads and tolls, RFNSW said.
