ProStar receives Bendix Wingman Fusion in Australia

An Electronic Stability Program (ESP) earmarked for the International ProStar in Australia will be paired with Bendix Wingman Fusion.

The collision avoidance system has been integrated into the ABS package and moving forward will be standard fitment on models specified with the Eaton Ultrashift Plus automated manual transmission and optional on Eaton 18-speed manual transmissions.

Commercial vehicle manufacturer, IVECO, made the announcement at the Brisbane Truck Show.

The new safety equipment engages with the driver through a series of alerts.

The optional Bendix Wingman Fusion system comprises a suite of active safety features including Collision Mitigation, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning and Stationary Vehicle Braking.

Bendix Wingman Fusion marries radar, camera and brake controller as it gathers and shares data across the components.

It acts when required, IVECO claims, to minimise the likelihood of a collision.

Other alerts include ‘Following Distance Alert’, where at speeds over 8 kph audible and visual alerts are given to notify that they’re travelling too close to the vehicle in front.

The program monitors and assists in vehicle rollover and over and under-steer situations through several sensors as the ABS pressure modulator valves and ECU control all corners of the vehicle.
Wingman Fusion is reportedly compatible with most third party telematics systems.

The ProStar range will also be available with square fuel tank options in a number of combinations to suit various wheelbases – up to 1300L will be available in some instances (400 plus 400L on the left side and 500L on the right side).

As well as looking smart, the square tanks hold additional fuel for a given amount of space on the chassis compared to traditional tanks.

According to Adrian Wright, International Engineering Manager, the availability of the new safety equipment across the ProStar range would further increase the appeal of the vehicles especially among larger fleet buyers.

“Certain customers have extremely stringent operational requirements and with the earlier ProStar specifications we couldn’t always meet all of these needs,” Wright said.

“The availability of Wingman Fusion addresses this situation by introducing a suite of innovative active safety systems to go with the ProStar’s existing safety benefits such as market-leading driver vision."

“The availability of ESP will also be well received particularly by operators involved in high centre of gravity applications. All-up, there are many more markets where the ProStar will now be able to stamp its mark.”
