SA Govt appoints new DPTI chief executive

The South Australian Government has announced the appointment of a new head of the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI).

Tony Braxton-Smith has been named in the role of Chief Executive.

Formerly of Great Southern Rail, where he was CEO, Braxton-Smith has also worked as Deputy Secretary within Transport for NSW.

He brings extensive experience to the role according to South Australian Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Local Government Stephan Knoll.

“Mr. Braxton-Smith brings to this role a wealth of private and public sector experience from around the globe,” he said in a statement.

“He has an intimate knowledge of the workings of the largest state government transport agency in the country, which will be invaluable as he leads South Australia’s department.”

The former rail executive has also held senior positions with Transport for Serco Asia Pacific, Dreamworld and P&O Services in Latin America.

“Throughout his various roles, Mr. Braxton-Smith has successfully delivered significant projects, reforms and improved every company or agency he has served,” Mr. Knoll said.

“The Marshall Government took a host of exciting reforms to the election in the infrastructure and public transport spheres and I’m extremely confident that Mr. Braxton-Smith is the best person to deliver on this ambitious agenda.”

Mr. Knoll thanked Acting Chief Executive Julienne TePohe for her work over the past six months.
