SA town to get $55m new road

The South Australian Government has greenlit the $55 million Gawler East Link Road project, which will link Main North Road to residential developments east of Gawler in Adelaide’s north.

The state government has been working with Gawler Council, developer Springwood Communities and local MP, Tony Piccolo, to identify a suitable road alignment to create the link between Main North Road and Calton Road.

“The Gawler East Link Road and associated traffic and community infrastructure delivery is a great example of how State and Local Government with the Private Sector have worked together to achieve positive community benefits,” said Gawler Mayor, Karen Redman.

“The total investment in infrastructure for the Gawler East area is estimated at $80.1m and is expected to be delivered over the next 15 years.”

The new road will provide a single lane in each direction to provide an alternate route for existing residents in Gawler East to access Main North Road, helping to reduce vehicle traffic through the Gawler town centre.

The project includes new traffic signals and an upgrade of the intersection of Potts and Para roads on Main North Road, improvements to Potts Road and a bridge over the south Para River, as well as cycling lanes and new footpath.
