TCA updates National Telematics Framework for clarity

Transport Certification Australia (TCA) has released an updated suite of documents for the National Telematics Framework.

The National Telematics Framework is a government-endorsed, digital business platform for telematics and related intelligent technologies, which manages the relationships and interactions between producers, providers and consumers.

According to the TCA, the digital economy – and associated technological advancements – are challenging the public sector, which is striving to foster innovation, protecting consumers and addressing the potential unintended consequences of disruption to ensure an open technology market.

"The updated suite of documents have been developed to provide greater clarity to producers, providers and consumers,” said TCA CEO, Chris Koniditsiotis.

"With the Framework now being utilised across a diversity of policy areas, industry sectors and end-users, it's crucial that key components of the Framework are understood by all stakeholders,” he said.

The updated suite of documents reportedly include: National Telematics Framework Business Rules; Telematics Data Dictionary Telematics Data Exchange; and Levels of Assurance Application Builder.

"Together, these documents present the inter-related components which underpin the operation of the National Telematics Framework, which allows providers to link producers and consumers by offering applications with different levels of assurance to co-exist,” said Koniditsiotis.

"The documents also highlight how the Framework enables outcomes to be achieved, which would not otherwise be possible without appropriate guidance from government.

"For example, providing an open technology market with expected levels of interoperability depends on a number of inter-related components of the Framework, including the Business Rules of the Framework, the Telematics Data Dictionary and the Telematics Data Exchange," he said.

A new addition to the updated suite of documents is the Application Builder document. Targeted specifically for producers, it reportedly demonstrates how new applications can be easily created by referencing the common components available through the Framework.
