TSA repurposes end-of-life tyres with $4M fund

The Tyre Stewardship Fund is actively supporting a range of new product and market developments across 29 projects, with over $4 million committed to research and development as well as demonstration and implementation, according to Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA).

A range of new tyre-derived products are reported to be reaching commercial opportunity stage. These products vary in application from horse racing tracks, local roads, residential concrete slabs and composite material suitable for miscellaneous manufacturing.

Current case studies include: a rubber crumb and plastic composite for 3D printing; reinforced concrete for structural engineering; crumb rubber asphalt; and a porous pavement system.

TSA was formed to implement the national Tyre Product Stewardship Scheme to promote the development of viable markets for end-of-life tyres.

Earlier this month, TSA appointed a new Commercial Manager.
