Victorian Govt develops electric vehicle charging

The Victorian Government plans to jumpstart Australia’s fastest electric vehicle charging stations in regional parts of the state it announced today.

Australian electric vehicle network, Chargefox, will be the big beneficiary as Lily D’Ambrosio, Minister for Energy pledged $1 million to the company to develop ultra-rapid vehicle charging points at sites in Euroa and Barnawartha North.

Under the plan each site will have multiple charging stations and are anticipated to drastically reduce charging time for drivers.

The proposed 400km of range delivered in 15 minutes will make it the fastest charger available in Australia.

Chargefox will match the government funding to build the stations, which have been earmarked for completion by the end of October.

The move falls in line with the legislative stance by the Victorian Government whose ambition to achieve a low carbon future has seen it announce plans to reach net zero emissions by 2050.

The charge sites, under the arrangement, should help foster local economies in regional Victoria and make it easier for motorists travelling interstate.

D’Ambrosio confirmed the Victorian government was ensuring that it would be at the forefront of the transition into a future of electric vehicles.

“With our Solar Homes initiative and plans for electric vehicles, Victoria is leading the nation in new energy technology,” she said.

Jaclyn Symes, Member for Northern Victoria, said local businesses in regional Victoria would be supported by having the world’s best technology brought to their doorstep.

“These ultra-rapid charging sites will bring more tourists to our towns and help drive down emissions.”
