All-electric eEconic to join eActros at Brisbane Truck Show

Mercedes-Benz Trucks has confirmed the all-electric eEconic will join the eActros at the Brisbane Truck Show starting 18 May.

Best known for waste collection, the eEconic is, along with the eActros, considered a cornerstone of Daimler’s push to sell only CO2-neutral vehicles in its biggest sales regions of North America, Europe and Japan from 2039 onwards.

The eEconic was designed from the ground-up to work in densely-populated areas.

Production of the eEconic began last year at the Mercedes-Benz Trucks factory in Worth, Germany.

Using much the same electric drivetrain as the eActros, the eEconic has been designed to cover the vast majority of typical waste collection routes operated by an Econic in a single shift without intermediary charging.

The electric drivetrain enables a level cab floor to be used, allowing easy movement through the cab.

This is particularly advantageous when the driver wishes to leave the vehicle through the folding door on the co-driver’s side, well out of the way of traffic.

Following the Brisbane Truck Show the eEconic will take part in a validation trial in Australia and New Zealand.

Mercedes-Benz Trucks Australia Pacific Director, Andrew Assimo, said the eEconic was a clean, quiet and safe electric truck that is perfectly suited to operating in high density areas.

“There is a lot of anticipation about our fully-electric eEconic and eActros and we are excited to be able to have them on our stand in Brisbane before they get to work as part of our validation trial,” he said.

Daimler Truck has extensive experience with electric commercial vehicles and was the first manufacturer with an all-electric truck when the Fuso eCanter broke new ground when it was launched in Australia in 2021.

The introduction of eEconic production represents another milestone on Daimler Truck’s path to CO2-neutral transport.

In order to contribute to the decarbonisation of the commercial vehicle industry, the company is pursuing the goal of putting CO2-neutral transport on the roads by 2050.

The Brisbane Truck Show will be held from May 18 to 21 at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.
