ARTSA Institute (ARTSA-i) has released its June quarter heavy vehicle market report, showing mixed results across the heavy vehicle sector.
ARTSA-i reported 10,809 new registrations of prime movers, trailers, rigids and buses in the June quarter, and 40,443 in the last 12 months. This was a 13.8 per cent growth for the year compared to last year’s data.
However, ARTSA-i said this is only part of the story, as diving deeper into data can provide real insights to the true state of the market.
Prime movers
When looking at prime movers, there is a positive trend with 14 per cent growth in the last 12 months, with growth backing off to 8.0 per cent in the last six months.
Trailers
Trailers reported a strong positive trend with 24.8 per cent growth in the last 12 months, but moderating to 20 per cent in the last six months. According to ARTSA-i, the dolly, lead and semi trailer sectors are very strong, but dog and pig sectors have recorded negative growth particularly in the last six months.
Heavy and medium rigids
Heavy and medium rigids recorded a growth of 6.4 per cent over the last 12 months, but have seen a 3.2 per cent decline during the last six months compared to the same period the year prior.
Going forward, ARTSA-i Data analytics Executive Director, Rob Perkins, said the next two quarters are likely to show positive results despite COVID’s disruptions.
“Whilst COVID disruption to world supply chains has impacted on the supply of critical components there is a strong sense that order books are full and that new heavy vehicle registrations in the remaining two quarters of calendar year 2022 are likely to be strong,” he said.
“However, it is clear that the data is patchy and there are very distinct sub categories where growth is either plus 20 per cent or below zero.”
