City Crane Trucks backs diverse range of commercial vehicles

From light-duty tray tops through to heavy-duty prime movers, Adelaide-based City Crane Trucks (CCT) is not afraid to add to its already multi-varied truck line-up.

Founded in the year 2000 and located just north of Adelaide’s city centre, the company now has a diverse selection of transport equipment numbering over 50 units including tray tops, tilt trays, self-loaders and semi-trailers.

CCT Managing Director, Bruno Simone, has, over the last 21 years, found some firm favourites in Isuzu’s model range.

Examples of Isuzus in the fleet include the metro-savvy NNR 45-150 with AMT (automated manual transmission) and a 4,500kg GVM (gross vehicle mass), medium-duty FTR 150-260 Auto and FVY 240-300 Auto – both sporting long wheelbases and the larger unit boasting a GCM (gross combination mass) rating of 36,000kg.

Then there are the heavy lifters in the GXD 165-350 Auto Prime Mover and FYJ 300-350 Auto – featuring respective GVMs of 16,500kg and 30,000kg.

According to Simone, a focus on purchasing equipment that’s carefully specified for application and features the latest in technology and safety standards gives City Cranes an edge over the competition.

“Having the right trucks for the job simply means we get the work we want, which leads us to buying new equipment and maintaining the fleet well: It’s a repeating cycle that gives us an advantage,” Simone explained.

“Our Isuzus are our versatile day-to-day trucks. They may start off in the morning helping with a house renovation, then deliver an air conditioner and then be off delivering scaffolding by the end of the day.

“At the moment they’re involved in a lot of infrastructure and roadworks,” he said – adding that the company has installed around 85 per cent of the light poles around Adelaide at this stage.

“We buy Isuzus based on their reliability and our relationship with the dealer… and they haven’t let us down so far.”

Isuzu’s FYJ 300-350 8×4 and GXD 165-350 Auto Prime Mover are serious performers in the crane hire application, taking care of heavier day-to-day missions for CCT.

With generous power of 257kW (345hp) at 2,000rpm and torque of 1,422Nm at 1,400rpm, the FYJ has the grunt to get the job done.

“Our heavy rigids are fitted with a seven to nine metre tray with a crane attached, while our GXD prime movers are fitted with a variety of crane bogies,” said Simone.

“These Isuzu trucks have great power and payload capacities suited to the jobs we’ve bought them for, and that hasn’t changed after all these years of buying Isuzu – the range continues to provide what we need.”
