HHTS to extend reach through NHVR funding

Healthy Heads in Trucks & Sheds (HHTS) will receive key funding through the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator’s (NHVR) Heavy Vehicle Safety Initiative (HVSI).

The funding will help assist HHTS in extending its reach through the delivery of targeted mental wellbeing resources, tools and programs for truck drivers, distribution and warehouse staff.

HHTS CEO Naomi Frauenfelder said the funding boost provides HHTS with the opportunity to continue embedding the National Mental Health and Wellbeing Roadmap across the sector in addition to the delivery of new initiatives on a national scale.

“This contribution by the NHVR through HVSI will go a long way to providing much-needed support to those at the coalface of the sector,” she said.

“Being Mental Health Month, we also applaud the NHVR for its commitment to improving mental health and wellbeing across the sector.”

Over the coming 12 months and in alignment with the Roadmap strategy, HHTS will deliver multilingual mental health awareness training, an on-the-road outreach program, and awareness initiatives that aim to break down stigma relating to mental health according to Frauenfelder.

“We will also continue to develop the Healthy Heads App, adding new features in line with what truck drivers and shed workers are telling us they need,” she said.

“As the industry umbrella body for mental health and wellbeing, we are thrilled to have received this funding and will work tirelessly to ensure everyone can benefit from HHTS. We want people in this sector to feel supported and heard when it comes to their mental wellbeing.”

NHVR CEO Sal Petroccitto said the NHVR was extremely proud to support HHTS in their commitment to improving the mental health and wellbeing of the heavy vehicle industry and supply chain, through the Heavy Vehicle Safety Initiative, supported by the Federal Government.

“This project will give industry the tools to have meaningful conversations around mental health and hopefully encourage people to seek support when they need it,” said Petroccitto.

“Prioritising the mental health and wellbeing of our industry and supply chain is crucial to keeping everyone safe, and the sector moving,” he said.

HHTS and the NHVR have a shared commitment to the cause of better mental health and physical wellbeing of all people who operate and work in the supply chain.

Together they will work to drive awareness and break down mental health stigma.
