Isuzu helps Biltar build

A 2015 Isuzu NPR 55-155 Tradepack enables house frame building outfit, Biltar, to easily carry a full load of timber in its heavy-duty aluminium tray.

This gives the company – a custom house framing business based in south-east Melbourne – the ability to improve workflow and minimise the number of trips to the supplier or to jobs.

For the owner of Biltar, Ben Carr, a career in residential construction had always been the goal.

Over the ensuing decade, Carr grew his team to 18 members, hiring not only experienced team leaders, but also taking on apprentices to be trained up until they could run their own worksites.

In line with rapid growth, Biltar recorded stellar years – finishing 215 house frames in just one year.

According to Carr, the COVID situation has not dampened the passionate approach to the work.

“Because of the nature of our work, it’s been pretty much a business-as-usual approach for us,” he said.

“When we work, we’re pretty spaced out, so there’s already that social distancing in place. We just keep doing what we do.”

Carr attributes a good proportion of Biltar’s success to its Instagram account – which provides a showcase of the latest builds, as well as giving an insight into the team and allowing prospective customers to build a relationship with the crew at Biltar before they meet in person.

The sheer number of frames Biltar constructs meant Ben needed to focus on acquiring equipment that would improve business efficiency.

Which is where the 2015 Isuzu NPR 55-155 Tradepack came in, managing the transport of materials and tools between worksites.

“Before I bought the Isuzu, I would never have been able to fit all the timber and other materials onto the old trailer,” said Carr.

“We also have a couple of generators which we can put in the tray and drop off at other sites. The Isuzu’s ability to hold a lot of the equipment and materials has been a big benefit to the business.”

The Tradepack’s Gross Vehicle and Gross Combination Masses of 5,500kg and 9,000kg respectively allow it to easily carry a full load of timber in its heavy-duty aluminium tray, giving Biltar the ability to improve workflow and minimise the frequency of trips to the supplier or to jobs, Carr said.

Improving efficiency matters to Biltar, whether it be on housing estate projects or three million-dollar homes with tricky architectural structures and lots of steel – meeting deadlines is an important priority, and the Isuzu Tradepack helps the company achieve these outcomes.
