Low Soot Diesel Additive

A diesel additive developed by the Technical University in Eindhoven, the Netherlands has been shown to achieve lower soot emissions when mixed with ordinary diesel. The product, known as Cyclox, enables better combustion by extending ignition delay and improving flame characteristics and consequently reducing soot particles.

In a blend including 10% Cyclox the fuel was shown to produce a 50% reduction in soot emission. The new substance can be manufactured from a waste product in the paper industry called lignin. The University is currently developing industrial processes with which to manufacture Cyclox.
