New rest area for North Queensland

The Queensland Government has announced that a new $700 rest area will be built on the Gregory Developmental Road north of Charters Towers. This rest area will include a shelter, tables, benches, water tanks and toilet facilities with a ramp for wheelchair access.

A further $2.5 million will go towards building a new westbound overtaking lane on the Capricorn Highway near Emerald, while $150,000 is being allocated to upgrade an intersection towards the Dawson Highway in the Central Highlands. Work on these projects is hoped to be completed by June 2012.

In addition, $500,000 will be spent on an upgrade to the Kennedy Highway on the Kuranda Range this financial year.
