ACCC pricing director discusses road user charges at State Conference 2020

The Victorian Transport Association (VTA) has assembled a highly qualified field of experts to discuss some of the more common business costs transport operators face and, importantly, tips to manage them, in a session entitled 'The Costs of Doing Business' at its forthcoming State Conference 2020.

"The difference between a successful operator and one that struggles to meet payroll are the ones that have the tools and business acumen to be able to anticipate cost fluctuations, and factor them into their business models and pricing so that margins aren’t unduly eroded," said VTA CEO, Peter Anderson.

"Freight operators are especially vulnerable to increases in the Road User Charge, which is an area the VTA has been especially vocal about in recent months. So, we are thrilled that Australian Competition and Consumer Commission Director, Regulated Access and Pricing, Guy Donald will deliver a keynote presentation on road user charges, which will cover the current heavy vehicle reform processes regarding heavy vehicle charges the ACCC is involved in," he said.

Donald is part of the ACCC's Infrastructure & Transport - Access & Pricing Branch and delegates can look forward to hearing his informed perspectives on these charges that industry currently incurs.

Presenters from toll road owner and operator Transurban, insurers Gallagher’s and NTI, and transport business advisors Matthews Steer, will also deliver presentations during the conference on how operators can harness their services to better manage their exposure to business costs.

State Conference 2020 is being held at Silverwater Resort, Phillip Island from 1-3 March and is the premier professional development and networking event on the VTA’s calendar. More than 30 experts from government, regulatory and other transport industry stakeholders will address over 150 delegates around the conference theme of Managing Increased Demand.

VTA members are urged to take advantage of special Members Only pricing, with packages available to suit all delegates. For pricing and other information about the conference, visit the VTA website, where you can also register online.
