Mercedes-Benz names new Trucks Director

A former Daimler heavy vehicle product engineer has been appointed to the Director of Mercedes-Benz Trucks Australia Pacific the company has announced.

Andrew Assimo, who joined Daimler Truck & Bus in 2007, will oversee both markets in Australia and New Zealand.

He fills the role recently vacated by Michael May who has taken up the position of Managing Director at IVECO.

Daimler Truck and Bus President and CEO, Daniel Whitehead, said it was clear that Assimo was the best person for the role.

“Andrew has played a key role in establishing Mercedes-Benz as the premier heavy duty cab-over brand for smart business operators in Australia and we are confident he can guide the brand to even greater success,” he said.

“He has a close relationship with our Mercedes-Benz customers, having helped them improve their businesses during the last few years, and we know they will be pleased with this appointment.”

Whitehead said Assimo, who was promoted to Senior Manager in 2015 and overseen sales, production, operations and marketing, has taken over the Director role at an exciting time for the brand.

“Mercedes-Benz has the best cab-over truck in the market and is about to move further ahead with an even smarter Actros featuring MirrorCam and a host of other upgrades that its rivals simply can’t match,” Whitehead said.
