Nominations open for 2020 Australian Freight Industry Awards

The Victorian Transport Association (VTA) has announced the opening of nominations for the 2020 Australian Freight Industry Awards (AFIA).

“As many VTA members will recall, last year we celebrated the 30th anniversary of these prestigious awards, which for decades have recognised the achievements of Australian freight operators and their enormous contribution to our industry and economy,” said VTA CEO, Peter Anderson.

“Coronavirus has presented the industry with significant challenges. However, the VTA Executive Council and Secretariat are determined that the outstanding work our members do to keep supply chains moving and our economy strong is recognised, and that there is continuity in presenting these important industry accolades.

"As they say, the show must go on," he said.

Nominations are open for the following award categories:

  • Female Leadership Award
  • Personality of the Year Award
  • Investment in People Award
  • Application of Technology Award
  • Young Achiever Award
  • Best Practice Safety Award
  • Sustainable Environment Award

Anderson said criteria for the awards could be reviewed, and nominations submitted, at the new AFIA website with the closing date for nominations being Monday, 31 August.

“We are strongly encouraging VTA members and freight and logistics operators Australia-wide to support the awards and our great transport industry by nominating for one or more categories,” said Anderson, who also encouraged members and other freight and logistics operators to register to participate in the awards presentation on Sunday, 20 September. “This year, the AFIAs will be presented in a virtual format, with our presentation to be livestreamed. This will feature presentations to each of our seven award winners, as well as several musical acts and performances from some of Australia’s most notable entertainers."

The VTA recently announced this year's AFIA event would proceed albeit in a different format due to Covid-19 constraints.
