Point-to-point speed cameras introduced

. The first is to be placed on a 35km stretch of the Pacific Highway between Woodburn and Harwood in the Northern Rivers area in the north east of the state. These point-to-point cameras will not be targeting motorists driving cars or small trucks, infringements will only be issued for heavy vehicles caught speeding.

“Despite heavy vehicles making up only 3% of vehicle registrations, trucks over 4.5 tonnes are represented in nearly 20% of road fatalities across the state,” said NSW Minister for Transport and Roads, David Campbell. “If a truck’s average speed is higher than the speed limit for the road, the driver will be fined and incur demerit points.”
