Road Projects get $4.2 Billion

In the recent Budget announced by Treasurer Wayne Swan, Australia’s roadbuilding program has been given an extra $4.2 billion. The government is committed to an overall investment of $27.7 billion over the next six years.
 
The money is expected to go towards projects on the Hunter Expressway, the Pacific Highway at Kempsey and Woolgoolga, Bruce Highway, Calder Highway, Princes Highway (Winchelsea, site of Tony Abbott’s close call), the Dampier Highway, Great Eastern Highway, Great Northern Highway and on the South Road Superway. 

Elsewhere in the budget $8.3 million has been allocated to fund the establishment of the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator. A further $70.7 million has been earmarked to fund the development of the Moorebank Intermodal Terminal in Sydney.
