Scania reduces hot air

Swedish truck manufacturer, Scania, recently demonstrated its commitment to reducing carbon dioxide emissions globally. The company’s press conference to announce to European journalists the introduction of its new V8 engines took place as a web cast with journalists participating over the internet. The event would normally have involved transporting 200 registered journalists to Sweden by air. Scania believes it has reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 100 tonnes by holding such a press conference.
“The launch exceeded our expectations, particularly with the positive response we received regarding the implementation,” said Senior VP Corporate Relations, Erik Ljundberg. “The reduced climate impact and lower costs for both Scania and the participants are further positive effects of holding press conferences on the web.”
The web conference had been planned well before the actual problems caused by the recent Icelandic volcano grounding international air traffic in the Northern Hemisphere.
