Truck sales update for January is in

What were truck sales like last month? The Truck Industry Council (TIC) elaborates.

Coming off the back of a record year for truck sales in 2022 during which 34,743 new cab-chassis and prime movers were delivered, 2023 has already demonstrated that the demand for trucks, and more recently heavy vans, will continue, at least until the end of the current financial year when the once-in-a-generation tax incentives are due to be no longer applicable.

The TIC sales statistics for January 2023 shows 2,378 trucks and 407 heavy vans for the month, increases of 23.4 per cent and 84.2 per cent respectively compared with January 2022.

Taking into account January can be typically a quiet month in terms of sales due to public holidays and a general slowdown across many industries, these early results auger well for another strong year in truck sales.

The Heavy Duty sector recorded 944 units, 206 more than for January last year (+27.9 per cent). Medium Duty secured 445 new units, up 24 on last January (+5.7 per cent) and Light Duty achieved 989 deliveries which was an additional 221 over January 2022 (+28.8 per cent).
